Protective Shield

Protective Shield

               A wearable device

Design Brief

COVID-19 has shaken the roots of our global economic and social structures like no other event in the 21st century. COVID-19 continues to kill millions across the globe and is yet to become part of history due to several complications in how the disease spreads. One key problem is that we can’t see visibly who is infected, with many infected persons being completely asymptomatic.

Research says that a face mask is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from this virus, but do we have human-centric masks available in the market that protect us from the virus while appreciating basic bodily functions and needs? Without human-centric masks, it is more likely for users to remove their masks at least momentarily, lengthening our global fight against this pandemic.

Target audience: Persons above 12 years of age

How does solution benefit users?

My solution is a Protective Face Shield with features such as:

  1. A temperature scanner to alert and advice the user regarding appropriate social distancing

  2. Tinted glass to reduce stress while traveling in public areas, especially on sunny days or well-lit areas at night

  3. Filtered air circulation inside the shield for increased comfort

  4. Easy wiping and washing to maintain cleanliness and hygiene

  5. Light-weight to make wearing as unobtrusive as wearing glasses

  6. Adjustable in size to suit the user’s facial measurements

Mask Trends

Problem Statement:

Virus has no vaccine until now which results in rise in number of cases day by day exponentially.

Umbrella question:

How to create barrier between human and virus to ensure complete safety  for people ?

Primary research

Insights from In-depth interviews

face mask issues.JPG
  • We don't know who is affected.

  • we have a habit to touch our face regularly.

  • we are human and social.

Design Opportunity

I should see who is affected.

Please somebody hold my hand, I cant stop touching my face

 Framework

I need light weight mask like my spectacles

I want social life, I can't be a robot sitting at home

Based on the framework, I see design opportunity to propose a  Wearable device  for public and medical professions
